Senior Executive portraits for publications
Business people but not corporate photography!
Lyst, are a fashion Tech company based near Tower Bridge in London. The online company works to help you sift through the tangled forest of different brands to easily find what clothing item you are looking for. You can filter for your budget and style and it shows whats on sale on the net at different percentages, amongst other things, like trends etc.
I was asked to photograph some portraits of Emma Mcferran, Lyst’s CEO specifically for a publication, WWD, ‘Womens Wear Daily’. The brief was to showcase Emma and the working environment. Lyst is a fashon company, in that it works in fashion and shows what’s trending and ranking etc. . Lyst is not like a fashion house where you may have glitzy office, nice though it is. By its very nature Lyst is a tech company, so features lots of rows of desks and banks of computer.s However, there are some nice breakout areas for taking portraits and in particilar the boardroom and the interior circular corridor with its glass walls.
Being a young savvy senior exec of a sucessful company Emma is not unfamiliar with having her portrait taken and was comfprtable taking direction and relaxed infront of the camera. We decided on the boardroom with the simple bookshelf behind featuring various fashion books and magazines. The light was quite simple, a large light Octobox to one side and a white reflector and some ambient light as a fill. The circular glass walkway area of the office was also a nice area with its natural light and sence of space. Using natural light for headshots and portraits is always a preference of mine, I just prefer that more natual look so I can concentrate on engaging with the person and working with the office environment. Corporate portraits in London offices can be a challege, especially in the older period buildings, but the moden ones are generally filled with natural light which is great.
